Solving the identity puzzle

4-6 December 2006 Netamia attended the Internet Identity Workshop, a three-day event which took place at the Computer History Museum in Mountainview, California.

The organizers Kaliya Hamlin (a.k.a. Identitywoman), Doc Searls and Phil Windley are all leading proponents for User Centric Identity and for the convergence of the many hitherto disparate identity management initiatives.

All the sessions and demos of the workshop were organized on an ad hoc basis allowing everyone to get attention to their work, interests and needs for discussion and clarification. For Netamia that implements and combines most of the evolving identity management technologies, it was extremely beneficial to have simultaneous access to several of the leading identity experts such as Drummond Reed, Gabe Wachob, John Kemp, Pat Patterson, Eve Maler and Kim Cameron.

Due to the many signs of an imminent convergence of the various identity management initiatives, the spirit among the participants was very high during the complete workshop.

A specific result of Netamias participation was a slight change of priorities for the first version of our identity management solution Net-Safe. We decided to put support for OpenID and I-names on hold until specifications for OpenID2 had been finalized while accelerating support for Microsoft Cardspace, the first implementation of the generic Microsoft InfoCard technology which is currently being adopted by several Open Source projects, e.g. Novells Bandit.

We are already looking forward to attend the 2007 edition of the Internet Identity Workshop.
