About Net-Safe
What is Net-Safe?
Net-Safe is a new service offering benefits to medium sized internet portals, homepages of organizations as well as their individual members. As a user you get easy access to many services using a single but secure login. The associated portals and homepages will be able to offer you services which are otherwise confined to major corporations and portals.

Why did you make it?
A principal purpose of Net-Safe is to protect the ordinary user from fraud and harassment by other users. We achieve this through careful validation of user information combined with the users freedom to select the information they want to make available to other users and portals. You may read more about the principles of user centric identity management at www.identityblog.com.

How does it work?
You will be redirected to Net-Safe whenever you subscribe or login to an associated portal or homepage. It appears simular to being redirected to a payment processor when you are purchasing goods from a website. When you subscribe to a new portal, you will no longer need to fill in fields with your name, address a.o., but only to mark the information you want to submit. To login you may choose between traditional username/password and InfoCard. InfoCards, that you may create using Net-Safe, is a new function named ("CardSpace") in Microsoft Windows Vista that enhances security for ordinary PC users. The CardSpace technology may be retrofitted with Windows XP. Later support for InfoCard technology will be extended to Mac and Linux users.

What will be "Coming"?
The "Coming" tabs will reveal a number of functions that may assist you in managing your inventory, trades and a lot more across all the associated portals and websites you are using. These functions will be completed and activated as soon as they are supported by Heste-Nettet and other portals. Coming functions will also involve data and mobile services that we expect significant developments in the years to come.

Who's behind Net-Safe?
Net-Safe is developed and hosted by Netamia based on a contract with Heste-Nettet Fond ("Horse-Net Foundation"). The parties pursue further deployment of Net-Safe through a broader ownership within the Danish internet and consumer societies. Organizations and portals are welcome to contact hb@netamia.com.

Are there alternatives?
There are no existing solutions offering the functionality we would like to offer portals as well as users. Solutions offering a common login based on digital certificates have found limited use in some countries. While offering high security for the portals, these solutions may pose a severe threat to the users own PC. Such solutions are also prone to portals correlating their information about common users and are therefore illegal in privacy concerned countries. Net-Safe creates fully independent user-ID's for each portal.

How about technology?
Net-Safe has been developed for the open source LAMP platform (Linux, Apache, MySql, and PHP). It is based on open standards and specifications from OASIS, Liberty Alliance, Microsoft, XDI.ORG and OpenID Foundation. The communication between Net-Safe and the associated portals is flexible, but coherent to standards. For Danish portals the communication defaults to the tentative SAML2 profile published by the Danish Ministry of Science.
